Why a Tri?  Why a Corsair?  Why did we decide to only sell trimarans?  Having sailed both mono-hulls and cats there were some aspects we liked from each.  We found all those aspects in trimarans.  We also discovered some additional benefits which we did not expect.  While we Westerners may view sailing by the very Mediterranean historical view that mono hulls are the only type of watercraft.  One who looks at the development of watercraft in the Pacific will see a history almost exclusively of multi-hulls.  These water craft could perform well in the rougher waters and stronger winds but were also nimble in calmer conditions.

Tacking ability:  Even the experienced mono-hull sailor will be impressed by how quickly a trimaran can tack.  For the novice a trimaran  tacks effortlessly like a  mono-hull with training wheels).  The Corsair boats are easy to tack with only the main.  The boat's stability makes single handed tacking easy.

Stability:  Trimarans have a greater righting moment than all other boats of comparable size.  They are less likely to capsize.

Speed:  Tris are not only fast but they are smooth and controllable at higher speeds.  If you look at the bottom of the Corsair 36 above you notice how narrow the main hull is.  This decreases friction and increases speed.

Smoothness:  The narrow hulls easily slice through angry seas.

Space:  Some interior space is sacrificed but a bunch of deck space is added.  Corsair Trimarans also have great head room in their cabin.  The aft Cabin design on the F-28 and 31 provides plenty of room for cruising.  Tris at anchor are incredible swimming platforms.

Beachability:  You are sailing along and you see a gorgeous desolate sand beach.  If your boat has a keel you can just gaze at it from the distance.  Corsair Trimarans draw 16" or less.  So you can reach the beach!

A dry ride:  Whether you are up on the windward ama or in the cockpit you will have a dryer ride than on other boats.

Storage:  A Corsair trimaran provides plenty of extra storage in the amahs.  This is great for cleaning supplies, swim accessories, ladders or any things you don't want in the main cabin.   In the main cabin you will find plenty of storage compartments.  All above photos Billy Black.

Trailabilty:  The season is over in the Midwest.  Now you can take your boat down to the Keys, Baja, Hatteras, Texas....Wherever there's wind and water.

At Trisailing.com we have years of experience sailing and selling performance watercraft.  Dave owned and operated a windsurfing shop and Frederick was a  manufacturers representative for various companies in the sailing industry.  We have found trimarans to be the most versatile, highest performance, watercraft.  An added benefit is these are sailboats people can enjoy with their families and friends. Why a Corsair?
