Sample Agenda: Full day privately coached:
9 am: Meet - lecture on specific topic -- i.e., boat speed, techniques sail trim
specific to team needs. This is a time to identify and set goals for our time on
the water. The mission is to meet all of the teams goals. (Or: If no lecture
required then out on the water. If there is no wind -- we will lecture until a
breeze fills in -- this maximizes everyone's time.)
On the water -- lots of short course windward/leeward's. Lots of sets, takedowns
and mark rounding. Focus will be on boat handling, sail trim and tactics.
Practice starts and straight-line speed will also be incorporated. The day can
be entirely customized to the needs of the team.
5pm: Back at dock -- full review and debrief either on the boat, in the
classroom or at the yacht club depending on logistics. This can also be
incorporated into a team dinner which is great for team building. A detailed
debrief will also be e-mailed to the team a few days after the session.
9am: Meet, goal setting. Lecture on boat speed/ sailtrim/crew
organization, (or topic of groups needs). This will be videotaped for later
review. Boats will be divided into pairs and will be tuning partners for the day
and will swap the next day.
10: 30 am to 4:30pm : On water - windward /leeward courses, including a start
line. There will be a 3-minute starting sequence and then a once around
windward/leeward race, finishing through the finish line going upwind. The day
will feature lots of starts, races, mark roundings, starting techniques, all
different types of sets& takedowns. Boats will go upwind together and tune
throughout the day. Lunch will be taken on the water to maximize sailing time.
4:30 PM to 6pm: Review of the day, Q& A session and review of the videotape. A
social time for the fleet is suggested for fleet building.
All the action can be videotaped on both days and the coaches will be rotating from boat to boat.
Sunday:
9am: Meet, more review, Q and A session and a lecture on the fleets desired
topic -- i.e., rules, starting, sail trim etc. The classroom portion can be
videotaped for later review. Tuning partners will change.
10: 30 am to 4: 30 PM : Out on the water -- lots of races and tuning. There
will be a mini clinic regatta consisting of 3 races and as many practice starts
and races as possible. The coaches should get to spend time on the water with
each team at last twice each for maximum attention.
4: 30 PM to 6pm : Review of the day's videotape and a wrap up of the weekend. Q
and A session.
Copies of the weekend videotape should be available at a
nominal cost.
Weekend session -- two day's.
The weekend sessions are essentially the same as a one-day session -- the
lectures if required are tailored to the needs of the team and the focus is on
lots of on the water time and intense practice and team building.
Late afternoon/evening session:
A late afternoon session is a condensed version of a full day with obviously no
lecture but a lot of boat handling, sail trim, crew organization, mark roundings
and boat speed creation incorporated into it. We try to leave the dock by 5pm,
practice till it is dark and then have a thorough debrief and review afterwards
at the yacht club or facility.
