The AYF Mariner program is held on two or three Corsair 31's from www.trisailing.com .This program is the culmination of the Camp Miniwanca sailing programs.  The Camp is located about 35 Miles North of Muskegon Michigan.  In 2005 the program was based on Manitou Island.  In 2006 the campers will venture south along the Michigan Shore.    Mark Segraves, David Danforth and Frederick Hartray headed the program along with the staff from Camp Miniwanca.  The program includes sailing in a vareity of conditions, cooking on board, beach camping on Manitou Island or along the Michigan shore,, flying  a spinnaker, man over board training.  The campers came for this program from all over the country including:  Washington DC, Los Angeles, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, St Louis, Chicago and various parts of Michigan.

Lake Michigan has done it's part by providing wind speeds that have propelled the Corsairs at speeds in excess of 22 knots.  AYF  is excited to bring the program back for 2006.  The only negatives we observed was in the lack of enthusiasm in the campers returning to monohulls after ten days of offshore trimaran sailing.  For the land based portion of the program high performance dinghies and skiffs along with beach cats will be introduced for 2006.  The Mariner program not only exposed some kids to high performance offshore sailing but also made many other campers aware of the sailing and windsurfing opportunities on Lake Michigan.  Camp Minniwanca has proven to be the perfect venue for this sailing program having a mile of Lake Michigan frontage as well as an inland boathouse on Stony Lake where the campers are drilled on the basics of sailing.
